Pledge your support and our school could have the opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay

We’re delighted to be taking part in the UK’s biggest school sporting event – Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, which runs from 27 June – 1 July 2011. This is a fun week of sport and celebration, which uses the inspiration of London 2012 Games to help our young people take part in more sport. This year we’re also encouraging them to set their personal best in a variety of Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Lloyds TSB is also National Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, and with your pledges of support our school could have the chance of carrying the Olympic Flame in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay – a once in a lifetime opportunity.

To give us the best chance of winning we need you to make a pledge of support for our school online.  It’s simple to do, just go to www.lloydstsb.com/nationalschoolsportweek, search for us by school name or postcode – PE 15 9PXfill in your details and click the ‘Submit’ button. That’s it!

Your pledge of support could make all the difference. We just need 100 pledges of support to be in with a chance of carrying the Olympic Flame. Even if we reach 50 pledges we’ll still be in with a chance of winning £500 of sports equipment vouchers to help us enable more of our young people to do more sport.

You can also share our pledge page through email or on Facebook or Twitter. Once you’ve pledged your support, please ask your friends and family to pledge too - it only takes a minute!

Thank you for your support.

Charlotte Roach – Wells Sporting Ambassador Visits

        the Sports Academy

Wells Sports Foundation Sporting Ambassador, Charlotte Roach, to Inspire Neale Wade Students

·         Foundation set-up by Barrie Wells grants visits from elite athlete
·         Sporting Ambassador Charlotte Roach, an Olympic hopeful, will be visiting Neale Wade Community College Sports Academy to promote the benefits of sport to young people on 8th February.

The Wells Sports Foundation has granted Neale Wade College Sports Academy a visit from budding triathlete and top ambassador Charlotte Roach through its Athletes 4 Schools scheme.

Charlotte is a great role model to young people and really enjoys giving her time back to grassroots through her role as an Ambassador. The aim of the event is to enthuse and inspire young people through Charlotte’s life as an aspiring triathlete. Charlotte will be actively involved with all of the events on the day and will be leading a practical session involving training methods and techniques. She will also conduct a classroom session explaining her experiences of what it takes to be an elite athlete and how physical activity benefits our all round development.

Charlotte is gradually getting back to full competitive fitness following a serious accident she suffered around a year ago when she was out training on her bike. Although this was a traumatic experience for Charlotte, she is coming back strong to follow her dream to become a top triathlete.

Charlotte commented “Although I am not currently up to full fitness, I know that my experiences can really motivate these kids and give them a real insight into the highs and lows of sport but how it can make us even more determined to succeed. I have been so lucky to receive support from the Wells Sports Foundation and getting the chance to give back to such a worthy and valuable scheme is so rewarding. Sport is my life and inspiring children to get active is really satisfying.”

The Wells Sports Foundation has been set up by Barrie Wells to encourage greater participation of young people in sports.  Through the Foundations Athletes 4 Schools Scheme, schools and other various community organisations can apply for a visit from one of the 17 world class athletes Barrie Wells is privately funding to aid their 2012 Olympic potential, who visit worthwhile grassroots sports events to promote the many benefits of physical activity and to help young people to realise their sporting potential.

Barrie Wells commented “Charlotte is one of our star Ambassadors and a natural at engaging with young people. She has had a tough year but her determination to succeed as a triathlete balanced with completing her university studies is such an inspiration and will hopefully have an effect at Neale Wade School. I am so impressed with the activities the school are putting on for Charlotte to lead which overall sounds to be a really memorable occasion.”

Charlotte spent the day working with members of our sports academy, giving them an insight into how she trains for triathanlons, and the sacrifices that she has made to reach the level that she is currently at, also how to balance academic studies and training.  Her practical sessions where based around the endurance training that she does and this is important for all sports especially the invasion games that the academy supports.

Louise Hazel Visits selected members of Sports Academy

Former student Louise Hazel came into the college on Monday 7th February to speak to some of the sports academy students.

Louise gave a personal insight into life as an elite athlete and the sacrifices that she has had to make to achieve her goals.

The students were a credit to themselves asking some very sensible and appropriate questions.

We would like to thank Louise for giving her time and wish her the best of luck for the coming season.

Year 8 Boys Represent the District.

Year 8 Boys Rugby represented the Isle of Ely District in the county emerging schools tournament at Ely Rugby Club.  Having beaten all the schools in the district qualifying tournament they went into the tournament feeling quite confident.  They had to play Longsands and Thomas Deacon Academy and lost narrowly to both teams, playing some good creative rugby.  As a result of their performance they have been selected to represent to county in the regional shield competition at Bishop Stortford on Friday April 1st.

Congratulations to all the boys involved.
