Match Reports from 2009(10)

Yr 7 County Cup V Chesterton

The first match of 2010 saw NWCC travel to Chesterton, Cambridge to play in the county cup, victory would see them into the 1/4 finals.

NWCC started the game well and we soon breaking through the defence, creating chances.  After 15 minutes Keaton Smith scored the first goal, the score stayed at 1 - 0 until the end of the 1st half when Solomon Orieji scored NWCC second goal.

Chesterton started the 2nd half a different team and were soon level, the NWCC heads began to drop and it looked like Chesterton would score the winner, however solid defending kept the scores level.

In the final 5 minutes of the game NWCC were awarded a corner.  Ethan Kirby delivered a good cross for Ben Norton to head home what could be the winner.  Further solid defending kept Chesterton at bay and NWCC progress into the 1/4 finals were they will play the winners of St Ivo or Sawtry at home.  Match report by Ben Norton

Yr 7 Rugby District League V Cromwell

The boys were keen to finally get playing, earlier games had been cancelled due to the hard ground! The local derby was a excellent start.

NWCC dominated preceedings from the kick off, superb attacking running resulted in a early try from Josh Fairminer.  All the boys demonstrated termendous determination and very few tackles were missed.  They competed at every ruck and maul and successfully turned Cromwell over on many occasions.  Further tries from Connor Pears, Jordan Smith (3) Ed Harwin (2 ) Fairminer (2) and Henry Noot - Davies completed a 45 - 0 opening win.

U12 ESFA National Cup V Saffron Walden High School

The team from Saffron Walden settled into the game the quickest and took a deserved 2 - 0 lead.  NWCC finally responed making the score 2 -1 with a goal from Mitchell Drewery.  Early in the second half Adam Conyard levelled the score.  The visitors responed well again taking the lead.  Orieji leveled the scores once again making it 3 - 3.  This end to end game continued with Saffron Walden again taking the lead only for Conyard to level it once more.

This game was destined for penalties and after extra time which surprisingly was goaless that is were this tie was decided.  NWCC eventually won the shot out with NWCC keeper Henry Butt performing well.  The boys now face an away fixture against King Edward VII school Kings Lynn.

U15 ESFA National Cup V Roade School Northampton

The game started with end to end action, finally Harry Scott played Tom Westerman through to tuck home a well worked goal after 5 minutes.  Roade rallied and smashed a long range effort that was well saved by Luke Bradshaw.  Later in the first half Liam Lorraine played a through ball for Westerman to score his and NWCC's second.

The second half started with Roade pressurising the NWCC defence, Aidan Payne, Josh Crowson withstood this onslaught.  Soon in a repeat of the first goal Scott played Westerman in for his hat trick.  Scott was replaced soon after, his replacement Alex Thorne made an immediate impact, his first touch allowed Westerman to score his 4th!  Westerman finally completed the scoring smashing home his and NWCC 5th.  Report Written by Tom Westerman

U13 Girls V Hinchingbrooke

It was a game that the NWCC girls wanted to win!  Within 30 seconds Madison Garner had made a excellent save to keep NWCC level.  Soon after Alesi Willet drove the team forward with a kick one two with Charlotte Greenhorn who made a good run up the right, her cross was finished by Alesi who had continued her run.  Georgia Thorpe then latched onto a good pass from Emma Searle to score NWCC's second.  Willet then could her second of the game making it 3 - 0.  NWCC's dominance continued with further goals from Francesca Plitsch and Greenhorn making it 5 - 0, Hinchingbrooke pulled a goal back just before half time.  NWCC continued to score goals regularly in the second half, Willet completed her hat trick, Thorpe got her second and Sydney Davies and Kelly Webb completed the scorers making the final score 9 - 1 to NWCC.  An excellent overall performance and the girls awarded Emma Searle Player of the match.

U12 Friendly V Ken Stimson

NWCC had kick off, but quickly lost possession and Ken Stimpson started to dominate the early exchanges.  NWCC regained the upper hand and created numerous chances.  Against the run of play the Ken Stimpson No 10 created a scoring opportunity and a fantastic shot whistled past Jacob Young in the NWCC goal.

For the last 10 minutes of the 1st third NWCC continued to dominate and create chances for Lewis Welcher, Callum Cottey, Josh Hussey and a speculative effort from Ben Calvert.  However the ball wouldn't go in the net.

Right from the start of the second third NWCC continued their dominace craeting numerous chances.  Eventually Drew Barker won the ball at right back and played the ball through to Ashley Payne (Report Author) who in turn played a great ball through to Callum Cottey who produced a spectacular chip from about 30 yards to lob the keeper, bringing the scores level.  NWCC continued to dominate but could press home the adavantage.

The final third started evenly with both sides creating chances but no one could make the break through, this continued throughout the third but despite great chances from both teams the ball would just not go into the net.  With time running out NWCC won a corner but Ash Payne could only hit the bar!  Final score 1 - 1.  Thanks to all the parents who again turned up to support and to Aidan Payne for refeereing the game.

U14 ESFA National Cup V King Edward VII School, Kings Lynn

NWCC started this cup match well with a few chances to take the lead but struggled to beat the KES keeper.  After 15 minutes the visitors took the lead when a ball played over the top was missed by the NWCC defence and the striker slotted home under Toby Nulty.  Despite this setback NWCC continued to create chances but went into half time 1 - 0 down.

After the restart KES dominated however the NWCC defence held firm until Jacob Brown brought down a KES player in the box, the resulting penalty was scored to make it 2-0 to the visitors.  The NWCC players didn't let their heads drop and a fine strike from Jacob Brown attoned for his earlier challenge pulled a goal back and then in the dying minutes Ashley Hicks scored the equalisier.

The first half of extra time came and went, with no further score, however a mistake in the 2nd period of extra time proved costly as KES scored the winner.

SQUAD:

U12 ESFA National Cup V Westbourne Sports College Ipswich

It was the new year 7 students first game as a team and our first match proudly representing the college.  The long drive to Ipswich was filled with growing excitement and the nervousness in each player grew over the journey.

The two captains shook hands, NWCC won the toss awarding kick off to the home team.  A bright fast paced opening to the game saw both sides eager to get involved and impress.  NWCC had a couple of early chances made by long runs from the right by Harrison Smith, from one of these runs Adam Conyard opened the scoring to give NWCC the lead.  Westourne quickly responed equalising after a goal mouth scramble following a corner.  The home side continued to pressure the NWCC defence and from another corner they took the lead into half time 2 - 1.

As the second half began so did the rain.  The NWCC boys soon stepped up a gear, responding to the half time team talk, and mounted sustained pressure on the home sides defence.  Mazurek and Kirby began to regain the midfield battles and this resulted in a fine finish by Soloman Oreji.  The game remained end to end with stand in keeper Ethan Warby, a last minute replacement, performing well between the sticks.

NWCC started to increase the pressure on the Westbourne defence, there keeper was performing extremely well to keep the scores level.  However this pressure finally resulted in Conyard scoring his second of the game.  Oreji scored his second in the final moments of the game.  The NWCC boys were victorious in there first game 4 - 2.

A good all round team performance, the boys all wore the NWCC shirt with pride and look forward to a home tie against either Saffron Walden County High School (Essex) or Stoke High School (Ipswich) in the next round.

Squad:  Ethan Warby, Alfie Jaggard, Jamie Wilson, Daniel James, Henry Noot-Davis, Maciej Walerowski, Harrison Smith, Dominic Younge, Matthew Campbell, Jordan Tickner, Thomas Morton, Conor Mazurek, Ethan Kirby, Solomon Oreji, Adam Conyard (C) Report Author

U15 ESFA National Cup V Spalding Grammar School

NWCC had kick off and had a great start, Tom Westerman had a run and was taken down in the area which resulted in a penalty for our team, the penalty was taken by Casey Logan and he scored. NWCC 1-0 Spalding Grammer.

Spalding Grammer had the kick off and played about for a bit. A while later, Adam Goodman won the ball and took it down the wing, he took the shot and scored. the keeper was unlucky.

Harry Scott was on the ball and took on a few players and threaded it through to Goodman who scored lobbing the keeper.

The 4th goal was taken by Liam Lorraine who headered in a corner which was taken by Adam Goodman. Half time 4-0.

Most of the attacking players for NWCC were in the area trying to steal the ball and it fell to Jacob Brown (year 9) who scored a scrappy goal.

After a while the ball fell to Dan Symons who had a shot and it rolled under the keeper.

Finally the last goal was scored by Dan Symons.  Final score NWCC 7 Spalding 0, the U15's will discover who they play in the next round later this week.   Harry Scott

U14 Girls V Witchford Village College

The year 9 and year 8girls squad played very well in the first game back of the new season winning 7-9 against witchford. This game followed our previous success from last year, county and national cup winners and regional finalists.

We gave a strong performancein the first half, and conceded no goals, even though witchford strung together a few passes, they couldn't get through our solid defence. Neale-wade only scored 2 goals sent home by Chelsea Weston and Alesi Willet.

with a motivating half time talk we set out with scoring in our heads, and netted a further 4 goals by Georgia Thorpe(2), Aimee Wilson and Eilish Brown. Alesi Willet headed home to conclude the game at 7-0.

this was a good game and i'm sure we will continue and have another success, high-scoring season. Abbie Loosemore

U14 Girls District League V Witchford Village College

Neale Wade played there first game of the season and started were they finished last year, creating numerous chances.  Dani Westagate and Alesi Willet both scored two goals each in a 4 - 0 victory.  Neale Wade were lucky not to conceed as Witchford created a number of scoring opportunities.  Report by Georgia Thorpe Captain

ESFA U15 NWCC V Stratton College

We started poorly and conceeded an early goal, through a lack of concentration.  Then Harry Scott provided an excellent through ball for Tom Westerman to finish nicely. With the game evenly balanced at 1-1 we were caught out and the refeere awarded Stratton a penalty which they converted to make it 2-1 at half time.

Throughout the second half we dominated possession and had numerous chances, finally after continuous pressure Harry Scott converted a Liam Lorraine corner.  At 2-2 we were still on top and again Harry Scott turned provider for Tom Westerman to score a nice chip.  We continued to penetrate and the when Kai Scott-Henson was brought down on the edge of the box captain Casey Logan (report author) stepped up and scored the goal of the game!! (Mr Crosbie askes whether he is biased!)

Squad:  Luke Bradshaw, Josh Crowson, Aidan Payne, Ryan Cross, Alex Thorne, Liam Lorraine, Harry Scott, Casey Logan, Adam Goodman, Tom Westerman,Dan Symonds, Harry Yardy, Joe Piper, Allessio, Kai Scott-Henson.

They play Splading Grammar in the next round.

ESFA U12 NWCC V Casterton Business and Enterprise College

It was the first game back for the new year eights and their first game was certainly going to be tough, they were competing in the National school cup 1st round, their opponents for this match were Casterton Business and Enterprise college. The nervousness last year cost Neal wade from progressing in this tournament and showing them the door in the first round. Would history repeat itself or would Neale Wade conquer their nerves and succeed in progressing through to the next round?

The games was under way and Casterton looked the much stronger side for the first ten minutes with Ben Cooper and Daniel Youles making some crucial tackles and keeping Neale Wade in the game, but the inevitable happened the home side caught the Neale Wade back 4 out and put them one nil up. However instead of Neale Wade dropping their  heads this minor setback fired them up more, the outlet of the game was facilitated by; Drew Baker, Bradley Magarvie, Ben Calvert and Toby Ayres. These players were delivering the balls for Callum Coty and Ashley Payne to run on to and create the goal scoring opportunities. Half time and still no change in the score by this time the Neale Wade team had got themselves back into the game. The second half had started and the year 8 boys had got stuck in immediately hoping and raring for the ever coming goal ,finally Neale Wade scored Josh Hussey being the  feeder of the ball into the box and the goal keeper flapped at the ball and managing to keep it out of his net but not far enough to get the ball out of the danger zone and Lewis Welcher headed it home to give Neale Wade the goal they had been looking for.1 all game on and from then out the ball was going back and forth it was anyone’s game but there was no change in the score line so extra time was needed.

Extra time was the same as normal time both teams having good opportunities but the defence force was stopping the attacks before they could do damage. Eventually nearing the end of extra time the score line still had not changed so penalties were needed to decide these two teams fate. The penalty takers for Neale Wade were Ashley Payne, Harry Wenn, Jacob Birt, Ben Cooper and Lewis Welcher. A great effort from Jacob Young and some top class saves in the match but the Casterton penalty takers were putting the ball out of the reach of him. Man of the match award went to a well deserved Daniel Youles after a great game and hard work.  Unfortunatley 2 penalties were missed and we crashed out 4 -2 on penalities

Squad:

Jacob Young, Drew Barker, Ben Cooper, Daniel Youles, Bradley McGarvie, Toby Ayres, Josh Hussey, Lewis Welcher (Report Author), Ben Calvert, Ashley Payne, Callum Cottey, Dale Richardson, Harry Wenn, Jacob Birt, Jordi Scott-Henson, Robert Munden.
